The Third Ear
Notes: A pretty nifty little story. A guy comes up with a device that lets him read thoughts. He immediately misunderstands the thoughts he hears, attempts to blackmail one of his bosses, and ends up in jail. He cuts a deal with the warden to be a super-stoolie.
He gets what seems to be his big break when he "hears" fellow convicts planning a break. The warden promises him a good word with the parole board for the information. Since the stoolie only know the convict who planned the break, the warden sets up machine guns to block the escape. With lethal force, if necessary. Unfortunately, the convict planning the escape thinks the stoolie is a good guy and lets him in on the plan...just seconds before the escape's supposed to go down. The stoolie can't say "no" because the convicts can't risk him telling anyone. The stoolie is helplessly dragged along, knowing what awaits them. - Tony Isabella. |
